Hey, what's your favourite notebook? Here's mine.

Writing groups for teens

Start Writing workshops are geared to adult writers 17+ but there are other options around town. Here is a list of programs and activities in Toronto for younger, emerging writers.

These are not endorsements—I don’t have direct experiences with these groups—but I hope this list is helpful. If you run a writing program for young writers and want to add or update your workshop details, please get in touch.

Story Planet
Story Planet is a non-profit organization that empowers young Torontonians to make and share their stories. Their team of professional writers and artists facilitate high-energy, workshops that integrate art, writing, and digital media and result in a bound book, film or play.

Centauri Arts
Creative Writing classes and salons for children and teens aged 10 to 18. They offer multi-week, retreats and summer camps in a variety of arts disciplines.

Toronto Public Library
Programs & classes, streams for young voices and spoken word workshops are some of the items the TPL advertises on their site.

Sophie’s Studio
Also through TPL, Sophie’s Studio runs hands-on creative writing workshops across the city promoting creativity and writing for children. A recent workshop called “Writing (Fake) Fiction with (Real) Feeling” sounds awesome: perhaps it will return another time in the near future.
