Sterling is a literary journal that grew out of Start Writing workshops. Submissions for issue #5 are being accepted now through March 28th, 2014.
Sterling likes original fiction, poetry and graphic content from writers at all levels. Each issue has its own look and feel because we love printed material: it’s also a way to celebrate our ongoing triumphs over the blank page.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Fiction: our ideal submission is an original 2,571 word contemporary story that stays with us long after the reading is done. We will also consider flash fiction and pieces up to 3,000 words in all genres.
Poetry: we gladly review 1-5 pieces (10 pages or less) from our poetic friends. While we are open to all forms and styles, we place a high value on clarity and approachability. In other words, if after 10 passes we’re still not sure what you mean, it’s likely not a piece for us.
Comics: we love all types of visual storytelling. Submit 1-8 pages of your work, keeping in mind that graphic content will likely be printed in black and white.
Submissions are accepted online only through our Submittable portal at https://sterlingmag.submittable.com/submit
