Podcast #1: Allan Rosenfeld

The Start Writing Podcast kicks off with author and Writers’ Boot Camp veteran Allan Rosenfeld to chat about the 2nd edition of his memoir, Holocaust Lumber.

Episode 1: Allan Rosenfeld

When Allan began writing Holocaust Lumber, his goal was to document his childhood: to show what it was like to grow up on a lumber yard with two Holocaust survivors as parents. Three years and multiple printings later, his book has connected with readers all over the world. While reviewing proofs for the expanded 2nd edition of his memoir, I spoke with Allan about his return to Holocaust Lumber, the feedback he has received from friends and strangers, and why he feels he succeeded in bringing his father back to life.

Who’s that talking over the intro beats? Why, an edited William Faulkner, none other, on the occasion of being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. The line in full:

I feel that this award was not made to me as a man, but to my work – a life’s work in the agony and sweat of the human spirit, not for glory and least of all for profit, but to create out of the materials of the human spirit something which did not exist before.
