The Start Writing Podcast chats up Toronto author Daniel Perry about his debut collection of short fiction, Hamburger.
Episode 2: Daniel Perry
Daniel Perry sweats the small stuff. How long is a train ride from Rotterdam to Amersfoort? What does it feel like to take fire in a Lancaster bomber? Research often comes early in Daniel’s writing process, acting as a “reality peg” that helps ground his work (although he concedes taking an Avro Lancaster out for a spin wasn’t really an option).
I spoke to Daniel about his research, advice for emerging writers, Toronto’s literary scene, and the arrival of Hamburger, his super-terrific collection of short fiction, published by Thistledown Press.
The main thing is motivation. If you’re serious about (writing) and you see other people doing it, it helps you not to get discouraged.
